New Year, New Blog

Happy New Year from everyone!

It is fair to say that 2019 was a pretty epic year for the club and we hope that 2020 will continue to see the club grow at the same rate.

The Dinky Dons have returned to training at the Leisure Centre after their well-earned break and continues to offer fun packed sessions for 3,4 and 5 year olds. The progress since August of the children has been amazing. Sessions will return back outside at Starcross Playing fields as soon as the clocks change and when they do, we will be running some free taster sessions again to try to get some new Dinky Dons in readiness for next year when the older children will move up and represent the club at under 7 level.

In other news the club have submitted an application to become an FA approved Wildcat training centre, which is basically training sessions for girls only aged 5-11. We are hopeful that we will be successful and await confirmation from the FA in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to this site and our Facebook page for further updates. If you would like to be involved in the Wildcat centre we would love to have a female coach on board to help us to deliver the programme. (full training will be provided and this can lead to further coaching opportunities with the club) also we would be looking for any volunteers who wish to help with the coaching/running of the centre (this can be for 14-16 year olds) and would be ideal if you have children looking to get into coaching in the future or children looking for work experience or doing awards with their school. The volunteers would be supervised at all times. If you are interested in either of the above position, please drop us a line through the website, Facebook page or by emailing info@starcrossdonsfc.co.uk. Lastly if you know of any girls who would be interested in becoming a Starcross Wildcat please use the site to get in touch and register you interest here.

Since the last blog, the club has another qualified coach. Dinky Don John is now a fully qualified level 1 coach and applying what he has learnt to the dinky dons sessions and also to his adult team sessions!

The  Under 9’s are excelling and didn’t really have much time off at Christmas and were involved in friendlies either side of Christmas as well as returning to training. The team managed to rack up 100 goals in 2019! (you can see the goal scorers here), so a massive well done to the whole of the under 9 squad who will kick on this year and continue to inspire the Dinky Dons and the adult Dons!

In other news, the youth section of the club have just passed the annual health check for charter standard, so you can rest assured that if your child is playing for any of the Don’s youth teams that they are in a safe and secure environment and well positioned to enjoy their football at a club that believe in football for all.

In September 2020 the club will have the following footballing offer:

Team Age School Year
Dinky Dons 3,4 & 5 Nursery and up year 1
Under 7’s 6 and 7 Year 2
Under 10’s 9 and 10 Year 5
Wildcats Girls Training Centre (subject to FA acceptance) 5-11 Reception – Year 6

The club will announce training dates/times for next season in due course as well as details for the end of season presentation for all youth players including the Dinky Dons.

Up the Dons!
